['molnaːr], Ferenc (Franz), ungarischer Schriftsteller, * Budapest 12. 1. 1878, ✝ New York 1. 4. 1952; Journalist, im Ersten Weltkrieg Kriegsberichterstatter, emigrierte 1930 nach Westeuropa, 1940 in die USA. Sein populärstes Erzählwerk ist der Jugendroman »Die Jungen der Paulstraße« (1907; deutsch); seinen Weltruhm begründeten die routiniert verfassten, unterhaltsamen und zum Teil sozialkritischen Bühnenstücke, v. a. das naturalistische Märchenspiel »Liliom« (1910; deutsch).
